Petite USA Queens, with Shayleena Wijerathna, Teen Petite USA (extreme right)

Chit-Chat

Shayleena Wijerathna, who resides in California, in the USA, is very much in the news these days. She was crowned Teen Petite USA, and was featured in The Island newspaper, and in our Glam Scene, as well.

In addition to the numerous charity projects, she is involved in, Shayleena has now been given the opportunity to be an Ambassador to an athletic, clothing line, called Just Strong.

Although still a student, Shayleena has achieved much in life…and this is how our Chit-Chat went:

1. How would you describe yourself?

I would describe myself as a compassionate, determined, and empowering young woman. No matter where I am, I always try to include everyone, and make sure they feel comfortable, and a goal of mine is to show young girls what it means to be a woman.

2. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I would definitely say my time management skills. I seem to be busy all the time.

3. If you could change one thing about your family, what would it be?

Oh, yes…the amount of time we spend together. Whether I’m at school, or my sister is at a friend’s house, with everyone’s busy schedule, it’s hard to find a time where we can all go to a restaurant, or take a walk in the park.

4. School?

Shayleena…loves to be adventurous when on vacation

School is where I spend a lot of my time, I’m in theatre, and currently working on Puffs, which is a spinoff of the Harry Potter series. Last season, I was in Descendants the Musical, and She Kills Monsters. I have always been interested in math and science classes, over language, arts and history classes.

5. Happiest moment?

Winning the title of Teen Petite USA, after months of hard work!

6. What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Being able to be true to you, and doing things that actually make you happy, instead of others.

7. Are you religious?

Prefer to keep that answer to myself

8. Are you superstitious?

I would say with certain things, yes, but most of them do not seem real.

9. Your ideal guy?

Someone I can trust and be myself around.

10. Which living person do you most admire?

I really admire the American actress and singer Zendaya. She began her career as a Disney star and has been in movies, like Euphoria and Spiderman. Zendaya is someone who is a great influence on young girls; she’s an influence on me. Zendaya has helped so many fundraisers, like the American Heart Association, American Stroke Association, Communities in Schools, Convoy of Hope, and DonorsChoose.org. She is the women I aspire to be.

11. Which is your most treasured possession?

Shayleena Wijerathna

My grandma’s ring, I wear it every day because it reminds me of her.

12. If you were marooned on a desert island, who would you like as your companion?

I would say my mom because she is a great problem solver, and when we work as a team, we can do anything.

13. Your most embarrassing moment?

Haven’t experienced such a situation, so far.

14. Done anything daring?

Not yet.

15. Your ideal vacation?

Somewhere tropical, but also adventurous, where, one day, I could go to the beach and relax, and the next day I could go river rafting, through a jungle.

16. What kind of music are you into?

I really like pop music, or, let’s say, uplifting songs.

17. Favourite radio station?

100.3 because their music puts me in a fresh mindset every morning.

18. Favourite TV station?

The Hallmark Channel as they come up with many great movies that always fit the time of year, especially Christmas.

19 What would you like to be born as in your next life?

I would love to be born as a cheetah. They’re so beautiful, and I would love to live in the savannahs.

20. Any major plans for the future?

I want to get a degree in Biology and eventually make my way into the medical field.
