Mercantile Hockey Association nine-a-side Hockey Tournament

The third Mercantile Hockey Association (MHA) nine-a-side Hockey Tournament 2023, sponsored by Swisstek Ceylon PLC was successfully completed with all finals fiercely contested, with no quarter given at the Air Force Hockey Grounds, Ekala recently.

Fifteen teams in four divisions participated in the tournament. Commercial Bank dethroned defending champions HNB to win the ‘A’ division title, while Browns Group won the ‘B’ division. Seylan Bank won the ‘C’ division and Sampath Bank ‘B’ team won the ‘D’ division.

Here are the brief results of the four finals.

‘A’ Division: Commercial Bank beat HNB 1-0; the winning goal was scored by Anju Hewage.

‘B’ Division: Browns Group beat Hayleys Group 1-0; the winning goal was scored by Pathum Prabodha.

‘C’ Division: Seylan Bank beat Nations Trust Bank 2-1; Jifry Irshad scored both goals for Seylan Bank while A. Aravinda scored the solitary goal for NTB.

‘D’ Division: Sampath Bank ‘B’ beat Browns Group ‘B’1-0; the winning goal was scored by Prabodha Piyasena.
