Commencing work on 341 roads in 341 MC, UC, and PS areas

On the occasion of the first anniversary of President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’s inauguration, the development of 341 roads in 341 municipal councils, urban councils and pradeshiya sabhas will commence on December 29 under the patronage of the Minister of Highways Johnston Fernando.

State Minister for Rural Roads and Other Infrastructure, Nimal Lansa said that it is planned to implement this in line with the national program to develop 100,000 km to make the ‘Vision of Prosperity’ national policy a reality.

Minister expressed these views while participating in a discussion held at the ministry auditorium on the future course of action of the national program for the development of 100,000 kilometers.

Accordingly, the minister instructed the officials of the ministry to select a suitable road identified by the relevant institutions, develop it and make arrangements to hand it over to facilitate the transportation of the people expeditiously.

Relevant road projects should be completed expeditiously to achieve the target of developing 100,000 km within the next four years. The necessary mechanism should be set up properly for that. Minister Nimal Lansa instructed the relevant officials to initiate a program to construct car parks in the suburbs from next year to carry out road development as well as to reduce the existing traffic congestion.

Secretary to the Ministry of Highways RWR Pemasiri, Secretary to the State Ministry of Rural Roads and Other Infrastructure Prof. Ranjith Dissanayake, Director General of the Road Development Authority DM Dayaratne and Nimal Premathilake, Project Director of project for the development of 100,000 km were present at the occasion.
