Colombo BC win Army Commander’s Challenge Trophy
Colombo Basketball Club stamped their authority in local basketball winning the inaugural Army Commander’s Challenge Trophy beating hosts Army at Panagoda on Friday.The first quarter of the game was evenly contested with Colombo holding onto a slender one point lead (21-20). Army kept fighting in the second quarter as well and were trailing only by two points (38-36).
However, after the half-time, Colombo broke through the shackles scoring freely and had a comfortable 16 point lead at the end of the third quarter (64-48). They went onto clinch a comfortable 23 point win at the final whistle (87-64).
Dasun Nilantha of Colombo BC was declared the Best Offensive Player while Pawan Gamage won the award for the Best Defensive Player. Simron Yoganathan was crowned as the Most Valuable Player.
The tournament was organized for the first time under the guidance of the present Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP.
It was conducted under the supervision and leadership of the Major General Shewanth Kulatunge RWP RSP VSV USP who is the present Chairman of the Army Basketball Committee. This tournament saw the participation of top nine teams, including Army, Navy and Air Force basketball teams and they showcased good skills.
