Climate Smart Irrigated Agriculture Project gets underway in Tissamaharama

Two tanks in Tissamaharama are being rehabiliated under the Agriculture Ministry’s Climate Smart Irrigated Agriculture Project.

 The two tanks are the Galpiyassa Wewa and Pathahawewa. Their rehabiliation got underway on Saturday.

 The Climate Smart Irrigated Agriculture Project is supported by the World Bank and the amount proposed to be spent on the renovation of these two tanks is Rs. 50 million rupees. It will benefit about 100 farming families and under these two tanks, about 30 acres of ancient paddy fields will be cultivated.

The project aims to help augment the income of the people in the districts of the Northern and Eastern Provinces as well as the Hambantota District.

Agriculture Minsiter Mahinda  Amaraweera said that after the restoration of Pathaha wewa and Galpiyassa wewa, farmers would be abel to cultivate more lands.
