Thehan, Oneli, Hasali, Dinara win age group titles

Royal College player Thehan Wijemanne, Asian International’s Oneli Perera, Visakha’s Hasali Gajaba and St. Bridget’s Dinara de Silva clinched respective age group titles of the ongoing Clay Court National Tennis Championship 2020 at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts on Tuesday.

Wijemanne beat his Royal College counterpart Dhilvan Herath in a closely contested Under-18 boys’ final. Wijemanne scored 7-6(4), 6-2 in the final.

In the Under-18 girls final, the Open Women’s singles runner up Savini Jayasuriya had to once again settle for the runner up title as Oneli Perera edged her out in a closely contested encounter. Perera won the last two sets 6-0, 10-8 after conceding 3-6 defeat in the first.

Gajaba and De Silva dominated the Under-14 and Under-12 girls category finals. The Visakha Vidyalaya student beat Ruvi Lewkebandara 6-2, 6-0 to win the Under-14 girls title.

In the Under-12 girls final the Bridgetian scored 6-0, 6-0 against Onali de Silva to clinch the title.
