Civil society body set up under ‘Seth Sarana’ in Kalutara District to help estate families
A civil society grouping for the Kalutara District has been set up under ‘Seth Sarana’ recently to provide assistance to plantation families. ‘Seth Sarana’ is the social welfare arm of the Catholic Church. Formation of the new civil society grouping took place at Matugama with the participation of assistant director, ‘Seth Sarana’ Rev Father Rangana Prasad and coordinator of Tamil apostolic service Rev Father F.R. Sebastian. ‘Seth Sarana coordinator Mahesh Prasanna, project advior former MP M. Thilakaraj and several other civil society leaders attended the event.
The following appointments were also made: Chairman of the plantation civil society organization Udaya Kumar, Secretary is journalist Sripal Wanniarachchi founder of Sri Development Foundation, Treasurer S.M. Nirmala affiliated to the CWC and senior advisor Hinta Jayasinghe. P. K Ravindran will coordinate the distribution of 5,000 nutritious food packs among pregnant women in the plantation sector in the Kalutara district.
