Church incident: Doc makes statement to judge in camera

The 75-year-old doctor arrested over the detection of a hand grenade at the All Saints Church, Borella, made statement to the Colombo Additional Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya in camera yesterday.

The suspect was produced before the court by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD).

The suspect had requested the court that he be given the opportunity to make a statement in camera and his request was granted.

The CCD informed the court that the suspect would be detained for 90 days for further investigations with permission from the Defence Secretary. The CCD said the other six suspects too would be detained.

On Thursday, the CCD on Thursday claimed the suspect doctor has been behind last year’s grenade incident at Lanka Hospital as well. Police also arrested the person who allegedly sold grenades to the doctor. The arrest was made at Ranna, Hambantota.
