Although still a teenager – only 19 years old – Nishadi Ferguson has achieved quite a lot, in the scene here. Yes, her final goal is to be a lawyer, but she has also made appearances in a couple of teledramas, music videos, and has been in the spotlight, in various TV commercials, for leading brand names. She is also popular with photographers, when it comes to modelling bridal outfits.
Well, this is how my chit-chat with Nishadi went…

1. How would you describe yourself?
Let’s say I’m a girl who has a passion for action since I’ve engaged myself in many activities, in addition to my studies. I always try to do my activities with professionalism, courage and determination. I always believe in teamwork, plus motivation.

2. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Let me see…honestly, I can’t think of anything that would make a major difference to what I’m now.

3. If you could change one thing about your family, what would it be?
Actually, I wouldn’t look for any changes, where my family is concerned, since they help and support me in my future work, as a lawyer. But, maybe, there’s just one little thing; I hope my mum will understand the importance, in this field, and motivate me…a little bit more!

4. School?
Lumbini College, Colombo 4

5. Happiest moment?
Oh, yes, when I got my OL results. I shared my joy with my mum, who was with me all the time, supporting me, where the exam was concerned.

6. What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Making others happy is what I believe is true happiness. As Albert Einstein once said: “Best thing a man can do is to support another man.”

7. Are you religious?
I wouldn’t say ‘yes’ to that question. I’m a Buddhist, but I also respect other religions, because they, too, teach something good, for mankind.

8. Are you superstitious?
No way. I do not believe in myths and legends.

9. Your ideal guy?
My inspirational guy would be, in my opinion, a tall and handsome guy, with a pleasant personality. And, if he is always with me, during good and bad times, he is the best, even for a life partner. But, he must not get jealous, if I succeed in my achievements.

10. Which living person do you most admire?
Lee Bo-young. When I saw her TV series, I fell in love with her voice, and was so attracted by her acting skills. I try to follow her ways.

11. Which is your most treasured possession?
My Life. As a Buddhist, I believe that it is hard to receive this Human life.

12. If you were marooned on a desert island, who would you like as your companion?
My mum, even in the middle of the desert, as she will always encourage me to Go Forward, till I find a Human Settlement.

13. Your most embarrassing moment?
If I say “No embarrassing moments for me,” then I’m lying. I did have some embarrassing moments, especially when I did my first stage drama, at school. I got dumb and almost forgot the words in the play. But, thankfully, I quickly got over that fright!

14. Done anything daring?
I would consider this the most daring thing I’ve ever done and, again, connected with my first stage drama. I was so sick that I thought I cannot make it. But, I took courage, and did my part, in the drama, successfully.

15. Your ideal vacation?
A week in Nuwara-Eliya. I love the climate and the kind of atmosphere that prevail in the city known as ‘little England!”

16. What kind of music are you into?
Nothing out of the ordinary. But I love Hindi songs, also jazz and rap style music

17. Favourite radio station:
I can’t say I’m fond of any particular station, but I like to listen to REAL Radio and Sirasa FM – when time permits.

18. Favourtie TV station:
Yes, Hiru TV. I love to watch the teledramas, very much, when I take a break from my studies.

19. What would you like to be born as in your next life?
Perhaps, a singer and dancer as I love this singing and dancing scene.

20. Any major plans for the future?
Since I’m studying to be a lawyer, I hope to use my talents of Logic to provide better justice to my clients, and fight injustice, in the country, whenever possible.
