Chinese shipping company agrees to provide jobs to Sri Lankan seafarers

One of the world’s largest shipping companies “Far Shipping” has agreed to provide employment opportunities to Sri Lankan trained seafarers, says Nimal Siripala de Silva, Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation.

The minister said these facts on the morning of the 2nd when a delegation of the Far Shipping company, including the managing director Mr. Yu Yong Jun, met at the minister’s office.

Mr. U Yong Jun has told the minister that many trained Sri Lankan young sailors can be given job opportunities in his company located in China. He has said that he would have discussions with the stakeholders involved in the naval sector of Sri Lanka regarding the recruitment methods.

He further said that his company is willing to hire young people who have graduated from naval training institutes in Sri Lanka for on-the-job training and then hire them for permanent service.

Minister Nimal Siripala said that the Mahpola Maritime Company under the Sri Lankan Port Authority as well as the private sector institutions and the University of Moratuwa train a quality team in the maritime fields every year and if necessary they can be given a course that includes Chinese language for easier communication on board the vessels.
