Chinese ambassador pays courtesy call on Speaker

Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong paid a courtesy call on Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena at the latter’s official residence. Secretary General of Sri Lankan Parliament Dhammika Dasanayake and Chief of Political Section of Chinese Embassy Luo Chong were present.

The Speaker warmly welcomed the new Chinese envoy on assuming his duties and spoke valued the traditional friendship between Sri Lanka and China, as well as the long-term exchanges and cooperation between the legislatures of the two countries. Ambassador Qi conveyed the cordial greetings from leaders of the National People’s Congress of China and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and thanked the Sri Lanka Parliament for its long-term promotion of China-Sri Lanka friendship and cooperation.

On the sidelines of the meeting witnessed by Speaker Abeywardena, Ambassador Qi Zhenhong handed over a cheque for Rs. 3,418,000 to Senior Prof Sujeewa Amarasena , Vice Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna to fund a new Multimedia Centre in the University.
