China has been a friend when it counts
China would like Sri Lanka to enjoy economic recovery and the improvement of its people’s lives, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Sun Weidong, told the media following his meeting with Ven. Thibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera, Mahanayake of the Malwatta chapter of Siam Nikaya.
“China and Sri Lanka are close friends. China is standing with Sri Lanka at the time of crisis and has provided aid in our capacity in the last year,” he said.
Weidong led a delegation from the Chinese Foreign Ministry to Sri Lanka from 29 May to 01 June, and the purpose of the visit was to co-chair the 12th round of Diplomatic Consultations between the two countries, alongside Aruni Wijewardane, the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka.
During these consultations, the two countries will engage in discussions to evaluate the current state of their bilateral relations, encompassing various aspects such as political, economic, and cultural cooperation. Additionally, they will explore thematic cooperation and foster people-to-people contacts.
