China gifts 70% of Sri Lanka’s school uniform material needs for next year

China will donate school uniform material worth 13.51 million U.S. dollars to meet 70 percent of the country’s requirement in 2023, the Chinese Embassy in Colombo said on Monday.

In a statement, the Embassy said the first batch of material has already left China. They will reach Sri Lanka soon.

It said the first batch contains 2,374,427.5 meters of white shirt/ frock materials, 350,031.5 meters of white trouser materials, 150,003.5 meters of blue trouser materials and 138,134 meters of orange robe materials for monks.

The total length of the material is about 10 times the distance from Colombo to Jaffna, the Embassy also said in a Twitter message.

Sri Lanka has been providing free school uniform material to children since 1993.
