Chief Magistrate not amused by CID antics
refuses to order travel ban on Adarsha, ex-lover of Ashu Marasinghe

The way Criminal Investigation Department (CID) investigated complaints depended on who the plaintiff and defendant were, Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis told open court on Thursday (04).
Chief Magistrate Alwis said that there were a number of cases before his court where the defendant could be arrested without warrants. However, the CID did not arrest those individuals as they did not want to antagonise some defendants, he said.
Chief Magistrate Alwis made this statement when the case was filed by presidential advisor, Ashu Marasinghe alleging that a former lover, Wageesha Adarsha, had tried to extort Rs 100 million by threatening to release his naked photos to the Internet.
Lawyers representing Adarsha asked the court to give her permission to leave the country till August. The CID objected stating that she might not return to the country. However, the Chief Magistrate suspended the travel ban on Adarsha until the end of August.
