Chief Incumbent of Mihintale Raja Maha Viharaya complains IMF ruling SL
Chief Incumbent of Mihintale Raja Maha Viharaya, Ven. Walahahengunawewe Dhammaratana Thera said, on Thursday, that it was the IMF that ruled Sri Lanka. Addressing the media, following the commencement of religious activities, the thera said that they agree there are financial issues in the country and that the government needs to take drastic measures to address them.
“The government, however, continues to squander large amounts of money over unnecessary things. Vanity projects have not ended. The burden of economic recovery is firmly placed on the shoulders of the people,” he added.
Dhammaratana Thera said that they will ensure that devotees who come to Mihintale on Poson Poya will have access to the basic facilities that were provided in the previous years, despite the lack of State assistance.
The Thera said that they have not received any funds for this year’s State Poson festival due to the government’s strict financial management, adding that they have only asked for money, from the government, to pay the electricity bill and for a few facilities.
