Chemical factory faces second mishap

An underground tank at a chemical factory in the Homagama Industrial Zone was damaged on Monday morning and the surrounding area was covered in fumes.

Health officials advised those living in the surroundings to wear masks after people around the factory found it difficult to breathe.

The police also closed the road leading to the factory.

There was a fire at the same factory on 17 August 2023.

Police said that the smog cleared up after several hours.
