Chathurya, Oneli, Kiran and Hasali win titles

 105th Colombo Championships

Chathurya Nilaweera, Oneli Perera, Vairavanathan and Hasali Gajaba won the boys’ and girls’ singles titles of their respective age categories of the 105th Colombo Championships at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association clay courts on Saturday.

Stafford International School’s Nilaweera beat Thehan Wijemanne 7-5, 6-3 to clinch the Under-18 boys’ singles title before joining his brother Vichinthya in the Under-16 doubles semi-final where they beat Janava de Saram and Matheesha Nettasinghe 6-3, 6-2 for a place in the final.

The Under-18 girls’ singles title was won by Asian International School’s Oneli Perera. Perera overcame a first set defeat to beat Vishmi Serasinghe 4-6, 7-6, 10-5.

In the Under-16 boys’ singles title fight, British School player Vairavanathan beat Zaidh Zihar 6-2, 6-3.

Visakha Vidyalaya player Hasali Gajaba scored a hard fought win over Saajida Razick (6-3, 3-6, 12-10) to clinch the Under-16 girls’ singles title.

The winners received trophies from Match Referee Dharaka Ellawala.
