Chamindu blasts quick fire century

Chamindu Wickramasinghe took batting honours of the day with blistering century and Avishka Tharindu stood out with an outstanding all-round feat as St. Anthony’s, Kandy, St. Anthony’s Wattala and St. Sebastian’s registered victories in the Under-19 Division I limited Overs Tier ‘A’ and ‘B’ matches played on Wednesday.

Wickramasinghe’s knock which included 19 fours and three sixes came in 62 balls as St. Anthony’s reached a victory target of 203 runs with eight wickets and 23 overs to spare. The win helped the team from Katugastota secure a better position in the Group ‘Z’ points table. For S. Thomas’ it was their third defeat.

Avishka Tharindu’s all round performances helped St. Anthony’s Wattala record their third victory of the tournament and cement their position as the leaders in Group ‘Z’ in Tier ‘B’. He took four wickets to restrict Lumbini to 162 runs before scoring an unbeaten 57 runs to seal the win with 19 overs to spare.

At Moratuwa, off-spinner Mahen Silva took four wickets and skipper Sukitha Prasanna scored an unbeaten half century for St. Sebastian’s to record a five wickets victory over St. Benedict’s. In adversity the Bens had some consolation seeing left-arm spinner Malinda Perera finishing his quota of ten overs for just ten runs. He took two wickets and his ten overs included six maidens.
