Centenary of World Scout Jamboree in London celebrated here

A ceremony was held at the Sri Lanka Scouts Headquarters on Friday to mark the centenary of the 1920 World Scout Jamboree in London, introduction of “Ging gang goolie goolie’ song by Sir Baden Powell and the anniversary of acclamation of Powell as the Chief Scout of the World by some 8,000 Scouts from 34 countries gathered for the first World Scout Jamboree beneath the glass-covered dome of London’s Olympia.

To mark the centennial commemoration, a first day stamp cover and a commemoration medal was introduced at the ceremony of which the Chief Guest was Chief Commissioner Major General Milinda Peiris and Guest of Honour was Deputy Chief Commissioner and World Scout Committee member Janaprith Fernando. National Programme commissioner Sarath Matararachchi and Assistant Chief Commissioner Dr. Manjual Sahabandu, Sri Lanka Queen’s and President’s Scout Guild Chairman,  Kamalnath Jinadasa and former Chairman Sanath Rohana Wickremasinghe.
