CEB troubled by steep cost increases resulting from adverse weather
By Ifham Nizam
The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) yesterday assured that despite the prevailing difficult weather conditions, it would not burden consumers with another electricity tariff revision.
The CEB also said that the generation of thermal power, on a daily basis, had been increased to 64 percent from 30 percent.
“We are facing difficult conditions due to the shortage of water for hydropower generation,” an Electrical Engineer said, adding that changing weather patterns would help ease the prevailing situation.
The cost of power generation stood at about Rs. 800 million, but the prevailing situation means the cost would now rise to about Rs. 1.4 billion, the official said.
Hydropower generation had dropped to about 17%, he added.
