CEB restructuring Bill in Parliament next month
No more coal power plants
Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera told Parliament yesterday that a Bill to restructure the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) would be presented to the House next month.
Minister Wijesekera said that there were serious issues pertaining to the efficiency of 24,000 employees attached to the CEB.
Responding to a question raised by Polonnaruwa District SJB MP K. Nelson, the Minister said that the draft bill would be presented to the Cabinet the following week. It would be presented to the Cabinet once it was finalised by the Attorney General’s Department.
Minister Wijesekera said that the government had made a policy decision not to construct any more coal power plants in Sri Lanka.
“A solar power plant will be constructed instead of the earlier plan to set up a coal power plant in Sampur,” he said.
