‘CEB not maximising high rainfall power generation’
The news item under the above headline appearing in The Sunday Island says that independent engineers and energy experts had criticized the CEB for not fully utilising available hydropower, boosted by heavy rains. We have seen and read in newspapers of major hydropower reservoirs overflowing, sluice gates being opened and people living downstream cautioned to be watchful. As the independent engineers and experts say, any man with common sense would question why the CEB does not shut down diesel power generating plants when hydropower reservoirs are overflowing. It will be interesting to know whether, during such periods, The CEB purchases energy from the private sector. If so, the answer is obvious. Opening a Pandora’s box.
