The Ceylon Electricity Board had asked for a 22% tariff hike from the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCL), CEB Senior Engineers’ Association (CEBSEA) Spokesperson Engineer Nandika Pathirage said.

Pathirage said that the CEB had reduced the tariff in June and that it was ludicrous to increase prices a few months later.

“Tariff was reduced by 14% in June, based on CEB data. Now, the same CEB says there was some issue with the data given a few months ago. This is not acceptable.”

The government must investigate how CEB came up with faulty data, Pathirage said.
