CEB employees’ protest against privatisation
As consumers of this vital utility –ELECTRICITY – we too join the CEB employees and thank them for this demonstration and not resorting to strike action to sabotage and inconvenience the consumers and cripple industrial and commercial sectors. As they rightly voice, privatisation is not the answer but, it is presumed, is go back to the system or administration which prevailed before the years 1990, when CEB ran as a state profitable venture. This was possible as there were no political interferences or bullish directions or orders for personal gains, misusing power. The employees of CEB, including the engineers, it would appear, have a plan, as seen on placards, held high, for us to see. May be a Least Cost, Long Term Generation plan, with due consideration to include Renewable Sources of Energy to reach a target of 70% by 2032. It is left for the government to trust them and enlist their support by giving them all assistance to save this country and its people to have a service with an affordable tariff. It is also presumed, that other experts on this energy sector will extend their support, if sought by CEB. The fitting placard which the demonstrators should have carried should have been ‘politicians, keep your hooves off the grass’.
Hope the government would pay heed to the call of the CEB employees which is also the wish of the people as well. This vital utility should certainly be in the hands of the state for various reasons, security and affordable tariff.
I wish the CEB employees struggle all success!
