Catholic Church disowns ‘prophet’ Jerome, backs investigation
By Norman Palihawadana
Denying that the Catholic Church has anything to do with Pastor Jerome Fernando, now under investigation for making statements which may cause tensions among communities, Spokesperson Rev. Father Cyril Gamini Fernando yesterday (16) said that they were surprised why the government had not initiated an inquiry much earlier.
Addressing the media at the Bishop’s House, Rev. Fernando said that the media had disclosed the identities of some foreign elements who were in touch with Pastor Fernando but the failure on the part of the administration to act was quite questionable.
Rev. Fernando warned unless tangible action was taken, Pastor Fernando’s conduct could lead to violence among the communities. The priest said that the Church felt the need to address this issue immediately to prevent interested parties from exploiting the situation.
