Colombo Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith yesterday demanded that the government find the perpetrators of the Easter Sunday carnage.

Participating in the Black Sunday protest outside Kochchikade St. Antony’s Church yesterday, the Cardinal said: “Our effort is to establish who was actually behind the attacks. This is an issue not only for Catholics; all Sri Lankans suffered due to the attacks. No one who wants to promote hatred and religious strife will receive our support. We believe there should be unity among different ethnic and religious communities all over the world

Members of the Maha Sangha joined Cardinal Ranjith and other black-clad worshippers outside St Anthony’s church, one of the sites attacked, carrying banners calling for justice.

Thousands of Catholics countrywide attended Sunday Mass in Churches dressed in black with prayers and protests calling for justice for those killed in Easter Sunday attacks.

Church bells tolled and prayers were chanted at 8:45 a.m., the time when bombs were detonated almost simultaneously at two Roman Catholic churches and a Christian church during Easter services on April 21, 2019.
