A retired Appeals Court judge had been campaigning for Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) near a polling centre at Al Mubarak national school, Malwana yesterday (5) morning, Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) alleged.

CaFFE executive director Manas Makeen said that the retired judge had been within 100 metres of the polling centre, a clear violation of election laws.

“This is a clear violation of election law. People in the judicial service should know the law,” Makeen said.

CaFFE Executive Director added that there had been a number of incidents on illegal election propaganda.

“The election however was relatively free and fair, as at noon. The voter turnout has also been low so far,” he said.
