Cader to meet Ganuka in the Under-12 boys’ singles final

Abdul Baasith Cader and Ganuka Fernando advanced to the Under-12 boys’ singles final of the Sri Lanka Tennis Nationals 2020 at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts on Friday.

Fernando, a player from St. Joseph’s College, Negombo beat Louis Knese of N.I.C.E. International, Negombo 6-4, 6-1 in the semi-final.

Abdul Baasith Cader from D.S. Senanayake College ousted Lithum Jayabandu 6-1, 6-2 in his semi final match.

The Under-12 is probably the most competitive age category at the Nationals as 74 competitors had entered for the 2020 edition.

Ganuka Fernando beat Buvindu Jayawardhana (6-1, 6-2), Thenu De Zoysa (6-0, 6-1), Aahil Kaleel (6-2, 6-2) and Ransana Wanigasooriya (quarter-final 6-4, 7-5) on his way to the final.

Abdul Baasith Cader who ousted second seed Gehash Tissera in the quarter-finals (6-2, 4-6, 10-4) also secured victories against Ranuja Sithsara Senevirathna (6-0, 6-0), Minhas Muthuthanthri (6-2, 6-1) and Kenula Rathnayake 6-0, 6-0. (RF)
