Cabinet nod for new Commercial High Court to speed up resolution of disputes
The Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval for setting up a new Commercial High Court, Cabinet spokesman Bandula Gunawardena told reporters on Tuesday.
Addressing the media, Gunawardena said there was a need for swift resolution of commercial disputes, citing existing delays in legal proceedings.
Gunawardena said that to address that concern and foster a more conducive investment environment for the country’s development goals, the establishment of a Commercial High Court was essential. The Minister said the proposed court would possess both first-instance and appellate jurisdiction over commercial disputes.
The designated location for the new Commercial High Court will be at number 80, Justice Avenue, Colombo 12.
