Cabinet nod for establishing Lankan embassy in New Zealand for the first time
The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to establish a Sri Lankan High Commission in New Zealand capital Wellington, Cabinet spokesman Bandula Gunawardena told reporters yesterday.
Addressing the weekly post-Cabinet media briefing, Gunawardena said this will further boost diplomatic relations between the two nations.
The proposal was made by Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Sabry, Gunawardena said.
Sri Lanka only has a Consulate in Wellington right now, he said.
The minister added that a large number of Sri Lankans also live in New Zealand.
The Cabinet met for the first time in 2024 on Monday (1).
