Cabinet nod for carrying out tourism promotion programmes in U K , Germany, France and India
The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday approved a proposal by the Minister of Tourism to carry out tourism promotion programmes targeting the United Kingdom, Germany, France and India, the main sources of tourists in the Asian region.
Addressing the Cabinet press briefing on Tuesday, co-Cabinet spokesman, Dr. Ramesh Pathirana said that the government wanted to implement tourism promotion programmes aimed at the upcoming vacation season.
“All parties involved in the tourism sector, including airlines, are making a collective effort to revive the tourism industry, affected by the COVID-19 epidemic. We want to attract tourists once again during the 2021/2022 tourist season,” he said.
The Cabinet has previously approved the appointment of Destination Agencies and Public Relations Companies in the major tourism markets for a period of five years as part of the Global Communication Program scheduled by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau.
“To complement that Global Tourism Promotion Programme, the Minister of Tourism has proposed to implement tourism promotion programmes targeting the tourist markets of the United Kingdom, Germany, France and India,” Dr. Pathirana said.
