Cabinet imposes restrictions on Galle Face events, govt. celebrations shifted

The Cabinet of Ministers has banned entertainment events and political meetings at the Galle Face Green with effect from April 20.

However, the Presidential Media Division (PMD) earlier announced that the Sinhala and Tamil Avurudu celebrations would be held at the Galle Face, on Saturday, for government servants.

The Island sought an explanation from the government whether the Cabinet decision wouldn’t affect the planned Galle Face celebrations. Later we were told the event, scheduled for Saturday, would be held at the Shangri-La Green.
