CAA rakes in over Rs 260 million as fines

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) on Thursday (21), said they have collected more than 260 million rupees as fines following raids conducted against unscrupulous traders, from the beginning of this year to the third week of December, to curb fleecing of consumers.

Around 22,000 raids have been carried out, the CAA said.Out of the total, 21,000 led to court cases, according to CAA data.

The court fines have totalled 267,630,448 rupees, the CAA data shows.Most of the cases were on the sale of goods at higher rates, hoarding stocks, sale of date expired items, and failure to display the prices.

1,185 raids have been carried out so far this month in view of the festive season.The CAA said these raids would be continued during the Christmas and New Year season.
