CA to hear Ranawaka’s revision application in Feb.

The Court of Appeal will resume hearing on 21 Feb. the revision application filed by Patali Champika Ranawaka SJB Member of Parliament for the Colombo District.

Ranawaka has been indicted in the High Court of Colombo for fabricating evidence about a road accident which occurred at Rajagiriya on 28 Feb. 2016.

Last week Colombo Judicial Medical Officer reported to court that Ranawaka was fit to stand trial.

Ranawaka is alleged to have fabricated evidence in collaboration with the Welikada Police.

The revision application has said that the Magistrate completed hearing the issue. The driver of Ranawaka pleaded guilty to the road accident. A penalty was imposed. The High Court cannot review the same issue, his revision application has argued.

Faiz Mustapaha President’s Counsel was not present in court yesterday for personal reasons.

President’s Counsel Faiz Mustapha will appear with Saliya Pieris PC, Anuja Premaratne PC and Keerthi Tilakaratne.

Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Pieris appeared for the State.

The bench comprised Justice Menaka Wijesundera and Justice S. Kumaran Ratnam.
