Businessman arrested for assaulting foreign envoy

Slave Island police Saturday arrested a businessman for assaulting Iranian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Dr. Alireza Delkhosh.The 33-year-old suspect was in police custody at the time of going to press.

Police said that the suspect had assaulted the Ambassador at a shopping mall car park in Colombo.

The incident took place over a traffic dispute. The suspect got into his vehicle after assaulting the Ambassador and tried to drive away, but the latter stood in front of the assailant’s vehicle, until the arrival of the police.
