In supporting the vision of the country and sector to embrace organic fertilizers to improve and achieve better standards of healthy living, Bureau Veritas Consumer Products Services Lanka, part of the global leader for testing, inspection and certification services, recently stepped up to expand its laboratory services to now offer organic fertilizer testing.

The organic fertilizer product categories that can be tested are liquid, solid and compost, and its main test parameters include chemical requirements, toxic elements, microbiological analysis, and physical requirements.

Rasanga U. Hewage, Vice President, Central Asia Region at Bureau Veritas Consumer Products Services, said ‘We take great pride in supporting the government and country in its decision to ban chemical fertilizers and pesticides and adopt an organic approach to agriculture. Our organic fertilizer analysis will help farmers, planters, and businesses to get a head start in this process. Trust is the foremost core value we cherish at Bureau Veritas and this is well reflected in every relationship fostered by our Sri Lankan arm.’

The benefits of using organic fertilizers as opposed to inorganic fertilizers and pesticides is plenty, such as improved soil structure including its water retention abilities, season-long supply of nutrients, increased water holding capacity. They help microbes thrive which aids crop growth and even keep off pests naturally.
