Brazen shooting at Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court

The gunman makes good his escape

A suspect who was giving evidence at the Mount Lavinia Magistrates’ Court was shot yesterday. The gunman escaped after opening fire.The Magistrate, the attorneys and others in the court premises were shaken by the incident.

However, the person who was targeted was unharmed.

Police suspect that the shooter concealed a revolver and entered the court. After firing the shot, the shooter had run out of the court. Police officers who were deployed at the court were unable to apprehend him.

The shooter jumped over the court parapet wall and made good his escape.The target of the shooting was a person who had been arrested over credit card fraud. He is a resident of Weligama.Mount Lavinia Police are investigating the incident.A senior police officer said there had been a serious breach of security.
