‘We have limited access to our systems and records’

Brandix spokesperson said that the company was fully cooperating with health authorities to establish how the eruption took place.

In response to the following queries (Q1): Were you able to establish how the Minuwangoda eruption happened? And (Q2): Can you confirm the 39-year-old woman tested positive on Oct 2 is not the first affected? Brandix sent us the following response: “The health authorities are conducting investigations as to how the initially identified team member was infected and how it spread through our Minuwangoda facility, and we are supporting them with the necessary resources and information as best as we can. All our employees from this facility are currently in hospital or quarantine and the plant is sealed, giving us limited access to our systems and records.

“We are clear of our corporate policy on health and safety standards and the requirements of the Government in this regard. The disease is new and evolving, and we are all learning of the efficacy of our processes. We are conducting an independent investigation to understand if there has been a lapse on the part of this plant in following the standards mentioned and will share these findings and take the necessary action.”
