Brain fever: Eight more Galle Prison inmates hospitalised

Eight inmates of the Galle Prison were admitted to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital over the weekend as they had symptoms of brain fever.

Prison Commissioner Gamini B Dissanayake said that following the death of an inmate, due to brain fever, all precautions had been taken to prevent the spread of the disease in the Galle Prison, and some of the inmates, who were ordered to be held there, had been transferred to the Angunakolapelessa Prison.

Dissanayake said that the eight inmates sent to the Karapitiya hospital were being treated under the prison officers’ protection, in normal wards, and the visitors to the Galle Prison would have to follow strict guidelines.
