Book on environmental destruction in and around Sinharaja rain forest launched

A book by Dr. Prasanna Cooray, titled “Vesi Wanatharayake Deshapalanaya: Sinharjaya Surekime Satan” was launched at the Deniyaya Pradeshiya Sabha auditorium last Thursday (17). The book is on environmental destruction in and around the Sinharaja rain forest, and also gives a detailed description of the conservation movement to protect it since 1875.

The main speakers at the event were Dr. Indi Akurugoda, Manjula Karunarathne (both senior lecturers of the University of Ruhuna) and environmentalists Sajeewa Chamikara and Sisira Kumara. The event was organised by the Haritha Mithuro of Deniyaya.
