‘Black seed oil helps build resilience against infections’ – Prof. M. H. A. Tissera
The spike in Covid-19 has caused widespread concern with infections and related deaths on an upward trend. Not only the elderly, but even young people are at risk of infection by variants of the virus sweeping across the country.
In these challenging times, what remains critical is to build resilience in the body against infections. A strong immune system helps fight infectious diseases. Vaccines trigger one’s immune response to recognize and fight disease-causing organisms.
In this context, the vaccination drive offers a good opportunity to build resilience in the body against the coronavirus. On the other hand, Ayurveda practices also play a useful role with many people opting for recommended herbal preparations to boost their body immunity.
“Scientific research has identified black seed oil as a potent immunity booster”, says Ayurveda physician, Prof. M. H. A. Tissera.
With a history dating back to over 3,000 years, black seed is at present used in Ayurveda and Unani treatment to boost immunity. Due to its unique medicinal properties, black seed is an essential component for the treatment of many ailments, including the management and treatment of respiratory tract conditions such as asthma, cough and cold and phlegm-related diseases, he noted.
In experiments conducted by reputed universities worldwide, it was found that thymoquinone, the main active ingredient in black seed oil, has the ability to increase the body’s immunity to a great extent. This component increases the white cells in the blood and fights bacteria and viruses that infiltrate the human body, he explained.
Therefore, it is advisable to take half a teaspoon or one teaspoon of black seed oil mixed with bee’s honey daily after breakfast to lead a healthy life, Prof. Tissera added.
