Left-arm paceman Eveen Kalhara rattled formidable Mahinda with a five wicket haul which included a hat trick as Maris Stella registered their second consecutive victory in the Under 19 Division I Cricket tournament on Thursday.

In reply to Maris Stella’s 181 for nine wickets, the home team were dismissed for just 62 runs as Kalhara broke the backbone of the Mahinda batting line up with his hat trick. After Hansaja Hiruna did early damage, Kalhara, who came in as the first change bowler took the fourth, fifth and sixth wickets in consecutive deliveries to rattle the batting line up.

“This is my best bowling performance. I am happy to have achieved that,” Kalhara who celebrated his 19th birthday on Thursday told The Island. Kalhara’s final bowling figures read 5.1-2-9-5.

Incidentally, it was the second consecutive defeat suffered by Mahinda in this tournament.

Meanwhile Mahanama, De Mazenod, St Servatius and Moratu Vidyalaya also registered victories on Thursday.
