Bimsara shines with a blistering knock
Seventeen year old Bimsara Weerasinghe, a student of Lyceum International School Wattala, excelled as an all rounder during the recently held International Schools tournament.
One of the highlights of the recently concluded Under 17 International Schools T20 cricket tournament was his blistering unbeaten knock of 205 runs which came in just 70 balls. His knock which was against Wycherley International School Colombo was inclusive of 17 boundaries and 18 towering sixes. It came in a league encounter of the tournament played at the Ananda Sastralaya ground in Kotte.
Though the tournament was hampered by rain with most of the matches being decided on a toss of a coin Lyceum International emerged champions and Bimsara for his superlative performance was adjudged the player of the tournament.
Apart from this performance Bimsara has also represented Lyceum in tournaments conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association and was a member of the Under 19 Division Two Tier ‘A’ limited over joint champions with St John’s Panadura which concluded two weeks back.
Bimsara also captained the Under 15 Colombo South Provincial team at the Under 15 inter-provincial tournament in the year 2021.
Bimsara hails from a family that has been involved in cricket for over three and a half decades. His father Mahesh Weerasinghe is one of the renowned cricket coaches in the country and was a top player during his school days at Dharmapala MV Pannipitiya.
