Bimandee, Senura adjudged most outstanding players

Junior National Table Tennis Championships 2020

Ananda College player Senura Silva and Bimandee Bandara of Hillwood College, Kandy were adjudged the best players in the boys’ and girls’ categories respective for their outstanding performances at the Junior National Table Tennis Championships 2020 held at Bandaragama over the weekend.

Recipients of the Crysbro Next Champ scholarships Senura and Bimandee won both the Under 18 and 15 age category singles titles.

Senura and Bimandee beat Hiruna Warasawithana and Ayla Chitty respectively in their Under 18 singles finals.

While Silva scored 3-0 to record the final win over the fellow Anandian, Bimandee registered a 3-1 victory against the Ladies College player.

In the semi-finals, Silva beat Dhanushka Wijesinghe (Kingswood) 3-0 and Warasawithana registered 3-1 win over Saluka Premachandra.

In the girls’ semis, Bandara won against Nadithi Rehansa (3-0) while Chameesha Thushadi beat Oneli Lehansa (3-1).

In the Under 15 age category, Senura beat Dewmeth Weerasena of Lyceum 3-0 in the final, while Bimandee beat Chameesha Thushadi (Kegalu Balika) 3-0.

The Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka conducted the 2020 Junior National Championships which could not be held during the year 2020 as the country was on lockdown for a better part of the year and sports activities could not be held.

TTASL said in a statement that the number of entries received for the just concluded event was ‘very encouraging.’ According to TTASA the event had attracted 145 boys’ and 135 girls’ players competing in age group events of Under 10, 12, 15 and 18.

Anugi Onara (Devenanda Ambalangoda) bt Menuji Weerasighe (Visakha) 3-2, Nisandi Nimthara (Southland Galle) bt Yoshini Jayawardena (St. Anthony’s) 3-1.

Finals:

Anugi Onara (Devenanda Ambalangoda) bt Nisandi Nimthara (Southland Galle) 3-0

U. 10 Boys’ Singles

Semi-Finals:

Agastthy Ananditha (Vidyartha Kandy) bt. Danula Attanayake 3-0, Naviru Methsitha (Dharmasoka Ambalangoda) bt Rusath Wickramasinghe 3-2

Finals:

Agastthy Ananditha (Vidyartha Kandy) bt. Naviru Methsitha (Dharmasoka Ambalangoda) 3-0

Sandinthie Jayasinghe (Musaeus College) bt Sinethmi Thesanya (Devenanda Ambalangoda) 3-1 , Tamadi Kavindya (Devenanda Ambalangoda) bt Bindu Jayanula (Devenanda Ambalangoda) 3-1.

Finals:

Sandinthie Jayasinghe (Musaeus College) bt Tamadi Kavindya (Devenanda Ambalangoda) 3-1.

Dewmeth Weerasena (Lyceum) bt Janith Batugedara (Royal) 3-0, Hareen Nimdinu (Dharmasoka Ambalangoda) bt Safiullah Akram 3-1.
