Acting on information elicited from four persons who had been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) recently while trying to leave the country, the police yesterday (26) recovered 42 kilos of heroin along with several weapons, including T 56 assault rifles, stashed in a house in the Angoda police area.

Police said that the heroin and the weapons belonged to the late underworld leader Angoda Lokka.

Raiding party recovered three T 56 assault rifles, one 3.8 mm pistol and 170 rounds of T 56 ammunition.

Police said that Angoda Lokka’s gang had used the house as the main distribution point in the area. Sources said that the house belonged to one of those four persons taken into custody at the BIA several days back.

Under interrogation, the suspect said that the heroin had been moved from Weligama to his house before Angoda Lokka was killed in India.
