BHC, Colombo won’t answer queries

UK arrest over Jaffna journalist’s killing:

The British High Commission in Colombo has said that queries relating to the arrest of a person in the UK should be directed to the Metropolitan Police Service and their media team.
The UK on 24 Feb., announced the arrest and the subsequent release of a 48-year-person over his alleged involvement in the killing of journalist Mylvaganam Nimalarajan, 39, in his Jaffna home on Oct 19, 2000. The killing took place in an area under military control, six years after the then government brought the Jaffna peninsula under its control.
A spokesperson for the BHC said that it was a matter for the Metropolitan Police Service. “All inquiries should be directed to them and their press team,” the official said on Monday (01).
The official said in response to The Island queries whether the UK had sought cooperation from Sri Lanka in that regard? What is the nationality of the suspect? Is he a British national, still a Sri Lankan political asylum seeker or most importantly when did he arrive in the UK?
The Metropolitan Police Service, UK, has said that a person recently arrested in the UK is a Sri Lankan national.
Jack Griffith, Press Officer – Specialist Operations at the London Metropolitan Police Service said so in response to The Island query whether the suspect was a UK national of Lankan origin or a political asylum seeker from Sri Lanka.
