The number of dengue patients reported had risen significantly in the past three weeks, the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU) said yesterday.

Community Physician Specialist Dr. Himali Herath told the media that more than 700 dengue patients were reported every week. The situation was likely to worsen, she said.

The Epidemiology Unit said that in 2021 so far there had been 9,361 reported dengue patients. 34% of the cases reported had been from the Western Province, Dr. Herath.

Ten districts in the country have been identified as Dengue High-Risk Zones. They are Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Galle, Matara, Kurunegala, Kandy, Ratnapura, Kegalle and Hambantota districts.

“Measures have been adopted to conduct Dengue Eradication programs across the country,” she said.
