Beached whale died due to starvation – Expert

The team of experts who did the autopsy of the whale found dead in Kayts, Jaffna, on Tuesday, had said it may have died of starvation, Conservation Biologist, Dr. Ranil P. Nanayakkara told The Island.

“However, we have to test some tissue sample to determine the cause of death,” said Dr. Nanayakkara.

It is likely that the baby Blue Whale got separated from its mother. “They are extremely dependent on their mother at this age,” Dr. Nanayakkara said.
