BASL President among eight new PCs

President of the Bar Association Kaushalya Nawaratne is among eight new President’s Counsels appointed recently. The others are Chamantha Weerakoon Unamboowe, Dr. Asanga Gunawansa, Mohamed Adamaly, Dr. Sivaji Felix, Faaiza Marker, Upul Kumatapperuma, Viran Corea and Iraj de Silva.

The President’s Secretary Saman Ekanayake, four months ago, invited qualified persons for the appointment of President’s Counsels for 2022/2023 in accordance with Article 33 (e) of the Constitution.

Among the criteria expected from those aspiring to be PCs was that they should be qualified attorneys-at-law of the Supreme Court, with at least 20 years of Supreme Court practice, with exceptions for15 years, under special circumstances.
