Bangladesh High Commissioner calls on Speaker

High Commissioner of Bangladesh Tareq Md Ariful Islam yesterday paid a courtesy call on Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena at the  speaker’s residence yesterday.

High Commissioner of Bangladesh Tareq Md Ariful Islam yesterday paid a courtesy call on Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena at the speaker’s residence. During the meeting, a number of issues were discussed, including the Covid pandemic situation in the two countries.

The Speaker extended his gratitude to the High Commissioner for the continued support of Bangladesh, which has always been a friend of Sri Lanka.

The High Commissioner said that Bangladesh is ready to provide guidance in several areas, such as the development of the Sri Lankan handloom industry and the microfinance credit issue.

The High Commissioner also commended the contribution of many Sri Lankans to the Bangladesh economy by holding high level positions in a number of sectors, especially in the garment industry.

The Speaker said that the establishment of the Sri Lanka-Bangladesh Parliamentary Friendship Association for the 9th Parliament had been delayed due to the prevailing Covid situation and that relations between the two countries would be further strengthened thereafter.
